Lachsöl für Hunde & Pferde

Salmon oil for dogs, cats & horses

Strong bones, healthy skin and a shiny coat: the right supply of omega fatty acids is essential for this. Unfortunately, your animal cannot produce these itself, they have to be fed - preferably completely naturally. Salmon oil is a great source of natural omega-3 fatty acids, but the important omega-6 fatty acids should not be missing either. That's why our Lax-Oil consists of 100% - that's right - salmon oil from Norwegian salmon.

an all round health maker

Our natural salmon oil provides your dog (and your cat or horse too) with polyunsaturated omega fatty acids. They are not only important for fur, bones and skin. In addition, the fatty acids keep your pet's brain fit. They also support the immune system and get the metabolism in the right flow. Older or sick animals in particular often suffer from a loss of appetite - it's a good thing that our salmon oil has an appetizing effect.

Salmon oil is a natural product of salmon. People are encouraged to eat salmon for dinner as it is a good source of protein and high in omega-3 acids. Salmon is not only good for us, but also for our pets!

Salmon oil can help your dog reap some of the health benefits associated with eating fish.

Just as your doctor may recommend a fish oil supplement, giving your dog salmon oil is not only safe, but can have a variety of benefits for their overall health. Salmon oil is one of the best supplements for the health and vitality of dogs, cats and horses.

That's because salmon oil contains omega fatty acids, an essential "good" type of fat that helps your pet's body and brain. Like humans, dogs cannot produce omega-3 fatty acids themselves and must obtain them from food. If you're considering including salmon oil in your furry friend's diet, here's what you need to know.

What fatty acids are in salmon oil?

There are four types of dietary fats: trans fats, saturated fats, monounsaturated fats, and polyunsaturated fats. Omega fatty acids, found in polyunsaturated fats, make important hormones that regulate blood flow and inflammation. However, they do not occur naturally in the body. Omega-3 is mainly found in salmon, shellfish, vegetable and nut oils and flaxseed. But your dog needs omega-3s in their diet for a number of reasons.

Omega 3 fatty acids

Omega-3 also helps balance omega-6 fatty acids, which are commonly found in processed foods and most grains. Because many dog food manufacturers use corn-fed meat or refined oil (which are high in omega-6 fatty acids), dogs often have an excess of omega-6 fatty acids in their diet. So your dog is getting too much omega-6 and not nearly enough omega-3 fatty acids. And while we need omega-6 fatty acids, our modern diet often has too many of them. The body needs both in balance, and the same goes for dogs.

Omega 6 fatty acids

Some omega-6 fatty acids are essential for dogs and cats, so they cannot be produced by the body on their own and must therefore be present directly in the feed. Linoleic acid should be included in dog food, and gamma-linolenic acid and arachidonic acid should also be included in cat food.

Is salmon oil suitable for horses, dogs and cats?

Put simply, yes. Salmon oil is a great way to support your dog, horse or cat's health. Salmon oil is rich in omega fatty acids, which can support a healthy immune system, healthy skin and coat, and cognitive function in horses, dogs, and cats.

The most important omega-3 fatty acids in salmon oil are EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid), DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and DPA (docosapentaenoic acid). These acids are particularly long chain, meaning they contain 20 or more carbon atoms.

Why should I give my dog salmon oil?

Salmon oil is helpful for giving your four-legged companion the omega fatty acids they need. Depending on overall health, taking salmon oil can become part of a long-term plan.

Another benefit of salmon oil is that it helps dogs throughout their lifespan. DHA, a component of the omega-3 fatty acid, supports proper brain and eye development in puppies. DHA may also improve cognitive function in older furry friends struggling with cognitive dysfunction.

As with anything involving your dog's health, you should speak to your veterinarian about supplementing their diet with fish oils before you begin.

How do I give my dog salmon oil?

There are many ways to use salmon oil for dogs. You can give your pet the unsaturated fatty acids daily with meals or mix the oil with their food. You can also use it several times a day.

If you're giving your dog an oil supplement, be sure to check the recommended dosage and the expiration date on the bottle. If you find that your dog is exhibiting reactions to daily administration of the salmon oil supplements, such as nausea, loose stools, or bad breath, you should discuss with your vet whether you should stop or minimize the supplements.

Salmon oil for cats

Our natural omega 3 and omega 6 supplier is also well tolerated by cats. It provides your cat with polyunsaturated omega fatty acids.

Salmon oils for cats are helpful in providing needed nutrients and vitamins that older furry cats may be lacking. It can also help with some skin diseases and other health problems.

Is Salmon Oil Good For Your Cat?

Fish oil supplements have a number of uses and potential benefits.

It sounds simple, but with any supplement, the first thing to consider is whether it actually gets absorbed well in the cat's gut and gets to the organs it's intended for. Or will it just leak out and end up in the litter box a day later?

To answer this question, researchers from the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands examined blood samples from cats consuming a salmon oil-based diet compared to cats consuming a sunflower oil-based diet.

They found that cats that ate salmon oil had more of the fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid, arachidonic acid, α-linolenic acid, oleic acid, palmitic acid and myristic acid in their blood plasma. So we can see that the salmon oil is entering their system.

Health Benefits

Salmon oil is commonly used as a dietary supplement to increase the absorption of omega fatty acids. Salmon oil is up to a third fatty acids, making it very efficient.

It is used for a number of different problems in cats.

salmon oil horse

Do you know about the unsaturated fatty acids (omega) for horses and its importance in horse feeding? Omega 3 is an essential fatty acid that cannot be manufactured by the horse's body and therefore must be included in the horse's daily diet for it to be truly healthy. Horses can tolerate unsaturated fatty acids very well, but horses do not like the taste of fish. Therefore, when administering the salmon oil, one should start with small amounts. These can be adjusted and increased per day. In this way you can get your horse used to the taste and at the same time do something good for him every day.

Why are omega fatty acids important for horses?

Omega fatty acids are important because they have a number of health benefits for horses, including:

  • Strong hooves
  • Healthy and shiny coat
  • maintaining joint health
  • Contribution to the maintenance and development of bone strength and density

Care and storage of salmon oil

It is important to protect the fish oil bottle from heat, light and air. It can go rancid as it's prone to oxidation, so make sure you throw it out if it smells "fake".

Make sure the amount of fish oil you give your pet is appropriate for its size, weight, and age. It is best to look at the feeding recommendations on the manufacturer's bottle.

It is difficult to feed your dog an all-natural diet. With the many processed ingredients in today's dog food, fish oil may be just the supplement your dog needs. Finally, you should consult your vet for advice before giving your dog any supplements.
